We believe that a better kind of government is possible; one based on openness, transparency, evidence, and citizen engagement. We believe that it is time for those of us who have a stake in the future to stand up, and change the system from the inside.

The next UK general election is in 2015. We aim to field candidates in that election, and to have a platform for them to stand on.

The Manifesto

We are writing a manifesto, but the whole point is that we build it together. It's easy to contribute. Do you feel strongly about some area of government policy? Why not add your ideas? Your contribution doesn't have to be huge - everything helps!

We are currently not a registered political party, but ideally, we will have a complete-enough manifesto, and enough people involved, that we can put up candidates in the 2015 general election.

Not local elections? Unfortunately parties that attempt to leap in at a national level alone will find it much harder than first building local recognition. With careful targetting of wards, I actually think the winning of Council seats is possible first time round (caveat: with a lot of hard, focussed work).

Oh, yes, good idea.

Changed to "general and local"

I'm not sure the aim should be to register as a political party and stand candidates at all.

Better in my view to focus on developing and discussing policies, and influencing (or supporting) candidates (who could be independent) who want to use some or all of the policies.

Maybe we can leave it slightly more open... I'll take a look.

We are currently not a registered political party, and do not know if we intend to become one, but we are aiming to have a complete-enough manifesto to be able to support candidates (either within a party or independent) in the 2015 general and local elections.

I've generalised this a bit, to say we aim to be able to support candidates from a party or independent in the elections. I think this leaves it nice and open, and doesn't preclude people from using the principles within to stand as an independent. @frankieroberto, what do you think?

I think it also implies that a party could be formed, which could adopt the manifesto, but that the manifesto wouldn't exclusively belong to that party, which is good. Separation of concerns.

@Floppy looks good to me.

My own view is that this group should aim to be more of a policy thinktank (horrible phrase) than a political party.

Personally, I'm not sure that's enough, but that's an argument for another place and time :)
