How do we ensure a healthy population?

National Health Service

Depoliticisation and protection of the National Health Service

In order to support every citizen's basic right to medical care and health services, we will maintain and enhance the NHS, keeping it as a free service available to anyone in the UK.

Politicians cannot be trusted with the NHS. We will make the NHS independent, governed by a constitution created by a citizen-led constitutional convention.

In order to deliver a high quality of care in the NHS, the government must provide sufficient funding and investment in the system.

NHS funding will be protected by legislation that binds the Government to committing an amount, decided by the constitutional convention, with increases linked to a measure such as GDP or inflation.

The NHS will not deny care to anyone for any reason, regardless of legal status, economic status, or nationality (for further details, see doitreatthisimmigrant.com).

Ban parking charges in car parks serving NHS facilities. Only in cases where there is a serious, demonstrable abuse of parking by motorists not using the facilities will any regimes be permitted to curb such abuse, but these must never include a parking charge.

Subsequent governments have obtained power promising to protect the NHS and broken those promises. The only way to secure the NHS is to take it out of the hands of politicians.

Do we need to lose the first paragraph, which sort of enshrines it as a public health service, not a privatised one?

My thinking there was that that point should be a job for the constitutional convention, and that we ought to trust the selected citizens to enshrine a free NHS into that constitution. Happy to consider edits in that though.

Yeah, I get that, but somehow it doesn't seem to state enough of our position on it. Dunno. Will see what others thing. In general, I'm a 👍 though.
