Council Tax

Investigate a fairer system than the current 'band' system of council tax.

Any ideas on improving the present council tax system?

Definitely support investigating a fairer system; has anyone proposed an improvement to the banded council tax approach that we could pick up? 👍

Great suggestion! I've heard of alternatives such as local sales tax; local income tax; land taxes a few of which are detailed here

Following on from my already often stated principle of not taxing people until they earn a living wage (because otherwise gov't is deliberately denying them that living wage), I'd be in favour of abolishing council tax in favour of shifting that revenue over to Income/Asset/Corporation Tax.

That would also eradicate the need for council tax benefit, saving millions from the welfare bill and administration costs.
