Nuclear Disarmament

The United Kingdom should take a role as international leader in pursuit of global nuclear disarmament, beginning with a promise to discontinue its own existing nuclear arsenal following any reforms of its conventional forces necessary for the United Kingdom to meet its security needs and international obligations. The United Kingdom should be resolutely opposed to horizontal and vertical nuclear proliferation in all forms and lead by example in pursuit of a world free of nuclear warheads and delivery mechanisms. The UK should follow the example set by New Zealand in declaring itself a nuclear arms free zone including its waters.

The UK should encourage European and NATO partners to share nuclear resources as a way of reducing the total number of war heads in existence.

Sensible steps towards reducing worldwide stock, rather than throwing away our immediate defence programs. Britain has reduced their arsenal greatly, that should be highllighted.

Seems like a better idea than current policy if you could just clarify this for me.

I remember watching a video of French general proposing a reasonable way to reduce warheads without reducing near term capability. I can't find the source though...

Interesting idea. Could we keep some of the original wording, and use the "pooling" as a stepping stone to full disarmament? We've lost the future commitment part of the original policy, which (from my reading) you'd still be in favour of?
